Support the Dog Park

What is a Dog Park?
A dog park is fenced area where dogs can run off leash and socialize in a safe and secure area. A dog park provides a place for people and dogs to relax, exercise and socialize.

Canton Community Association (CCA) recognizes the need for an off-leash area for dogs in Canton. CCA has established a fund and is seeking community support. The park will feature: 1) Open space where dogs can run and play in a legal “off-leash” area; 2) A double gated perimeter fence, divided into two sections: one for large dogs, and one for smaller or older dogs; 3) Shade, nearby parking, routine maintenance, and a notice board for dog park rules and related information.

CCA has been working closely with the Responsible Dog Owners Group, which had been working with Baltimore City’s Board of Recreation and Parks to develop a policy on dog parks. The Board voted in support of creating dog parks in Baltimore at its June 2001 meeting. Last September Mr. Marvin F. Billups, Jr., Director of the Department of Recreation and Parks, met with CCA at the proposed dog park site at the Senator Joseph S. Bonvegna Field at the intersection Clinton and Toone Streets. He authorized CCA to proceed with the creation of a dog park at this location. Mr. Billups’s decision meant that the first official dog park in Baltimore City is to be in Canton.

We need your help! A separate committee of the Canton Community Association leads the Dog Park initiative. We need your financial support and volunteer action and to help make the Dog Park a reality. CCA is an IRS 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt organization. All donations to the CCA for the Dog Park Fund are tax deductible. Please make all donations payable to ‘CCA’ (indicate Dog Park in the memo).
